Dear Summer: We thought you’d never come!

Colorado may be known for its snowy winters and epic skiing, but summer brings the chance to enjoy some spectacular scenery and outdoor adventures. The farmers’ market is in full swing, you can find a festival to go to on any given weekend and the wildflowers are in full bloom. We here at Rembrandt Yard were definitely ready for summer, especially after our surprise winter wonderland at the end of May!

Below is a list of our favorite things to do in Colorado once summer arrives!

Erica – Hands down my absolute favorite thing to do in the Summer here in Colorado is spend my time lounging in the freezing cold water of the Eldorado Springs Pool! My friends and I pack a nice lunch, cool beverages, and spend the whole day roasting in the sun eating popsicles. Theres nothing like spending a day at the Eldo Pool to make you feel like a kid again. Plus, they let you bring your own pool floaties – bring on the oversized flamingos and pool sharks!

Tracey – Summer! The 3 months I look forward to all year. During the Summer, I spend my days off in the mountains, searching for alpine lakes and the best hammock views. If I’m not in the mountains, I’m probably at a Red Rocks show or on a roof top in Denver with a cold beer in hand. My goal for this Summer is to check more destinations off my Colorado Bucketlist. Telluride is first on my list (taking all recommendations)!

Heather – One of my absolute favorite things to do in Colorado in the summer is hiking. There really is no other place I’ve been where the weather is consistently gorgeous, the trails are plentiful and you don’t have to travel very far to get outside. My other summer must-do in Colorado is to catch a show at Red Rocks Amphitheater. It’s the perfect way to spend a night under the stars and there really is no such thing as a bad show there. Did you know that Widespread Panic holds the record for the most consecutive sellout shows at Red Rocks? Have an amazing summer, friends!

Madeline – My favorite thing to do in Colorado is to road trip around the state with my pup and acrylics and to find beautiful spots to post up in and paint. I love finding an area where I can lay on a blanket and stare at the scenery for hours. Being from the Northeast, the landscape here is so different, it amazes me every time I explore. I will also try to find live music along the way, my favorite show being Neil Young over in Telluride. Did I stumble upon the most beautiful and amazing state or what!

REAL WEDDING – Kevin + Daniel

The love between Kevin + Daniel is infectious, to say the least, as we watched these two men promise to love each other forever here at Rembrandt Yard on Friday, March 29, 2019. Their family and friends gathered together to celebrate this special day that was full of laughs and a few tears (happy ones!) from beginning to end.

Both gentlemen stayed true to their personalities wearing different colored suits, bowties, and pocket squares.

A last-minute addition of the white and green flower adorned arch was provided by Painted Primrose.

It was indeed a family affair as Kevin’s mother stepped in to take on the task of the centerpiece florals. Their color scheme was elegant with silver, gold, and pops of light pink. Each table had a frame holding a photo of either Daniel or Kevin as a child.

|Catering Spotlight|: Three Tomatoes Catering

“Three Tomatoes Catering was started by three tenacious and dedicated women in 1977 who had a love for food and the art of feeding people.”  Today, they are one of Colorado’s most memorable catering companies for weddings, special events, and celebrations of all kinds.  We were able to chat with Lauren Szymecko, the Director of Catering for Three Tomatoes and find out more about her and the business.  Read on to learn more!

How did Three Tomatoes Catering get started?

Three Tomatoes Catering was started by three tenacious and dedicated women in 1977 who had a love for food and the art of feeding people. Since those humble beginnings the company has built a reputation in Denver and in the state of Colorado as everyone’s “favorite caterer”. Our team works hard to deliver the highest quality cuisine and service standards in our industry. We are proud to be the best in hospitality and our years of experience taught us to always treat every guest as if they are our one and only, and every detail counts.

What makes you stand out from other caterers in the area?

Our long standing 4 decade reputation, the pride we have in the quality of every morsel we serve, and our employee and guest relationships drive us.

What are your favorite wedding trends right now?

The after party! We love to serve our creative and delicious late night snacks and work with vendors who have amazing entertainment to offer our guests a smashing finale!

Denver CO caterer

What inspires you, Lauren?

All things food. Globally, locally and traditionally. Also outside inspirations within the art and design world such as music/performance, fashion, and architecture.

What is your number one tip for couples who are planning their wedding?

Remember this is about you two. Tap into the reasons you are hosting your friends and family for that one special night. Why and where you fell in love, your favorite foods, favorite music, sports team, even your pets! Bring your couple uniqueness into your event!

Also have a clear idea of budget and don’t be afraid to share! It helps us vendors and planners work realistically with you.

What are other types of events you like to work besides weddings?

We do it all! Graduation parties, themed mitzvahs, all day corporate affairs, holiday celebrations, anniversary soirees, and intimate dinner parties in homes. Those can actually be some of our favorites – picture one long table of close friends in a mood lit backyard setting celebrating laughter and life!

What are some interesting or unknown facts about Three Tomatoes Catering?

Our CEO is originally from Southern Italy and bought the company in 2014 from the original owners. He is (rightfully so) very passionate about the food we serve and even launched a Three Tomatoes Italy brand, where our company works with our planner in Milan to plan destination weddings and events from travel to food to activities such as private chef dinners, unforgettable boat rides and tours! We have planned quite a few events for some of our amazing Denver based clients in Italy and they cannot wait to go back!

Colorado wedding caterer

What do you like to do in your personal time?

Eat food. Research food. Entertain friends. Get inspired by nature and culture. When you love what you do – you do it on your days off.

What is your favorite hang out spot in Boulder?

I like a show at the Boulder Theater and a cocktail down the street at the OAK on Pearl.

What is your favorite outdoor activity in Colorado?

SKIING!!!!!! And trail/ river walks with our Wheaten Terrier, Darla.

What are some of your personal favorite foods?

Another hard question.
All French cuisine, because, BUTTER. My Polish grandma’s potato pancakes and simple home dishes like chicken paprikash and stuffed cabbage, and a really great burger.

Anything else you’d like to add?

I grew up in a small town in Midwest Michigan, but spent all of my 20’s in New York City before moving to Colorado. Living in that magical city opened my eyes to the world, food and the true art of hospitality and how to really “take care of one another” through food and service. It is my passion and something I live, breathe and try to instill in our team every day.

Our Favorite Things to Do During the Holidays

Hot cocoa, sledding, holiday lights…you name it, we love it here at Rembrandt Yard! The holidays are our favorite time of year and Colorado is a pretty magical place to be. The ski lifts in the mountains begin to open and holiday music plays in the background in the grocery stores. What’s not to love about the holidays!? Us ladies here at Rembrandt Yard are excited to share with you all our favorite things to do when the holiday season rolls around!

Molly – Visiting Santa, of course!  We took our little man to Village at the Peaks in Longmont last year, and got our picture taken with Santa Claus.  I also love watching the Lights of December Parade here in Boulder as it goes in front of our gallery, shopping for family and friends at the Boulder County Winter Farmer’s Market at the fairgrounds in Longmont, and visiting the Boulder Star at night while all wrapped up and sipping on hot cocoa.

Heather – The holiday season officially kicks off for me the day after Thanksgiving. I love participating in Santa Con! Dressing up like Santa, parading down Pearl Street with friends singing Christmas carols and spreading rowdy cheer is the best way to burn off that turkey coma. I also love all the parties. From gift exchanges and potlucks to Winter Solstice gatherings, it’s all about being with the people you love. And eating delicious food of course!

Tracey – I love the holidays in Colorado! There is nothing quite like bundling up next to the fireplace with a big cup of hot cocoa after a long day of snowboarding. The holidays are about family, which is why I love having my parents in town every Thanksgiving and Christmas. We spend our evenings brewery hopping, blasting Christmas records, and playing highly competitive board games. This year, I am hoping for my first white Christmas in Colorado!

Erica – While I have an endless list of favorite things to do during the holidays, one of my absolute favorites is present shopping on Pearl Street with my friends. I try to support local business as much as possible and always seem to find cute meaningful gifts at the boutique shops downtown like Voss, Peppercorn and Ku Cha Tea. It has turned into a tradition for us and we make a whole day out of it. Although, sometimes the deals are so good it’s hard to not shop for yourself…one present for you, one present for me. Two presents for you, two presents for me…you know how the story ends.

No matter who you are or what you believe, I think we can all agree that this holiday season in particular is the perfect time to hold your loved ones close and give to those who need it the most. Start your own traditions that can be passed down and savor every minute of the memories created.

|Catering Spotlight|: Footers Catering

The Scobeys

|Catering Spotlight|: Footers Catering

Footers Catering’s mission statement is: “Love what you do; Make it better every day; and Create exceptional experiences for our clients and their guests.”

We had the pleasure of asking Brittany Burrows from Footers Catering some questions about her and the business, read on to find out more about this incredible company!

How did Footers Catering get started?

Footers’ roots belong in Denver’s Capitol Hill as a restaurant owned by Jimmy Lambatos. This Greek entrepreneur had a vision of an Italian restaurant and since he had the highest standards for all that he did, he flew in a chef straight from Italy to ensure everything was completely authentic. As a nod to the Italian chef, Chef Footer, he kept the name and Footers was born in 1981. As the restaurant’s success grew, so did Jimmy’s passion for serving others. He ventured into the catering world, beginning by his own Camaro to transport the food and equipment on-site to the events.

In 2015, Jimmy’s son Anthony and his wife April purchased the business and made the transition to a second-generation family operation. Anthony and April are committed to honoring Jimmy’s traditions of cooking all of our food fresh on-site and providing exceptional customer service, while seeking ingenuity and creativity in our industry.

What would you say makes you stand out from other caterers in the area?

I am always awed by our culinary team’s ability to cook amazing food, anywhere in Colorado. Though we are based in Denver, because we cook our menus fresh on-site at all of our events, our event teams travel from Steamboat to Gypsum to Grand Junction and beyond. No matter if our chefs’ kitchen is in a field or on a rooftop, the quality of our food cooked fresh on-site is fantastic.

What’s an interesting fact everyone doesn’t know about Footers Catering?

When our original owner, Jimmy, had the restaurant, he would always ask expecting moms when their due date was. When he would hear they had their baby, he would bring them a home cooked meal to the hospital room! One time when he did this, the parents told him that when their baby girl grew up and got married, they were going to reach back out to him to get the wedding catered. Five years ago we received a picture in the mail with Jimmy, the parents, and the baby in the hospital room, requesting that we cater her wedding.

Awwwwww, we love this!

What are some of your favorite event trends right now?

Food stations! I’ve been so impressed and inspired seeing couples show their unique personalities through both food choices and our custom presentation. Even guests with the most traditional expectations have been wowed by how well a stations-style meal can accurately represent a couple, and provide a delicious and filling meal.

What has been your most memorable event?

This past June, I had the opportunity to coordinate a surprise wedding. When the groom initially reached out, I almost didn’t believe him! He was planning an entire wedding without the bride knowing and was planning to propose just two hours before the ceremony was set to begin. The bride’s family and friends were all on board, and the day went off without a hitch!

Oh wow, talk about a surprise!!

What is your #1 tip for couples planning their big day?

Slow down and enjoy the planning process! It’s so easy to get overwhelmed and caught up in the timelines, dos and don’ts, and all the little details. When you’re starting to feel stressed, think back to the moment when you asked the scariest question of your life, or when you said “yes!” Remember all those butterflies, all those feelings of excitement, nerves, even child-like joy!? You get to feel all of that forever with the one you love, and that is such a beautiful and wonderful thing – don’t forget that!

What are other events besides weddings that you enjoy catering to?

I love the galas we cater for our non-profit clients. They usually have a really fun theme, which lets our culinary staff be extra creative in their menu design. The passion the attendees and clients have for their cause is really inspiring!

What’s next for Footers Catering?

Being an industry leader in innovation is important to our team. My fellow coordinators, our culinary team, and our design team are constantly striving to stay ahead of the trend, and come up with concepts that guests have never seen before. Liquid nitrogen stations, progressive short plate stations, and hanging displays have been popular this summer, and I can’t wait to see what next year will bring!

We’d love to learn more about you Brittany, what are you doing on your days off?

I try my best to use my free time wisely, since working in the event industry can lead to a hectic schedule! I love taking my crazy Aussie to the dog park, volunteering at my church, or kayaking.

What’s your go-to hang out spot in Boulder?

I love grabbing a burger and a beer at Mountain Sun. It’s a really great spot right on Pearl Street with a casual feel but incredible menu. If you haven’t tried their Date Night Burger, you need to go ASAP!

Seriously, the date night burger is the BEST!

What is your favorite thing to do on a beautiful Colorado day?

I absolutely love dispersed camping! Nothing clears my mind like driving down a dirt road until I find the perfect spot, and then getting to kick back and disconnect for a few days.

What about when it’s snowing?

Coming from Pennsylvania, I have always loved how snow just seems to slow the world down for a day. I rarely take a day to myself, but usually love cozying up with a book or movie when it’s snowy. I do still need to try snowboarding!

Rembrandt Yard preferred caterer

You know we have to ask, what’s your favorite food?

My friends make fun of me because I design amazing menus for a living, but have the most classic palette. If it were up to me, I’d eat buffalo chicken or barbecue pulled pork for every meal.

You have to try this recipe Footers Catering shared with us that is just perfect for Thanksgiving:

|Catering Spotlight|: Three Leaf Catering

Alchemy Creative

|Catering Spotlight|: Three Leaf Catering

We have had the pleasure of working with the team of Three Leaf Catering for years now and have worked with them for weddings, celebrations, holiday parties, corporate meetings, fundraisers… you name it!  We wanted to sit down with Rachel Marrs, their Director of Catering, to learn more about where they come from, and where they are headed.  Here’s what we learned:

How did Three Leaf Catering get started, and what do you do?

Our owners have always had a passion for food and hospitality.  About 25 years ago they turned that passion into a business venture.  Who would have thought 25 years later that business would include 5 award winning restaurants, an organic farm, and a catering company?!  Three Leaf Catering is a full-service catering company based in Boulder stemming from our 5 award winning restaurants, organic farm and tea company.  At Three Leaf, we feature a unique variety of traditional & worldly cuisine to choose from.  We also help coordinate full service event staff, bartending & rental equipment based upon your event venue, timeframe & vision.  To ensure your wedding is unique to you & your fiancé, we prefer to build custom event proposals based on your menu preferences, budget & overall event needs.

What makes you stand out from other caterers in the area?

A few things really set us apart. We have our own organic farm in which we produce many of the ingredients used in our menus. Having multiple restaurants gives us the opportunity to pick the brains of multiple chefs. Because of this, we are able to customize and perfect recipes to fit any menu preference or request. Working so closely with these chefs gives our coordinators a wide range of menu knowledge. We also work diligently with our staff to make sure the hospitality aspect is far above expectation for any event.

What has been your most memorable event?

There have been so many!  I would say one of my favorites was a wedding in which the bride was from Australia and the groom from India.  They wanted a menu that had some traditional Aussie pies, traditional Indian curries as well as a local flare.  It was so fun creating a one of a kind menu that fit all of these different cuisines that also fit well together.  The wedding couple was a pleasure to work with and the flowers from Boulder Blooms were amazingly beautiful!

What inspires you as a caterer?

The amazing clients we work with are always an inspiration.  Having the one-on-one connection allows us to fully understand the vision that each one has.  No event and no client is the same which makes this job so much fun.  We are continuously learning and experiencing new things.

Give us some juicy facts that not everyone knows about Three Leaf:

The three leaves of the company are Food, Tea, Farm.  The owner, Lenny Martinelli, is an accomplished chef which is the Food leaf.  His wife, Sara Martinelli, runs the farm and her passion is the Farm leaf.  Lenny’s sister, Nikki, runs the Boulder Tea Company which is the Tea leaf.

What’s next for the business?

We are currently constructing a new catering office in Louisville CO! With the growth we have been experiencing, we are excited to relocate to a larger office where we will be able to meet with our Clients, do tastings, and work side by side with an executive catering chef. We are also finishing construction on Zucca, our Italian restaurant and moving Leaf, our vegetarian restaurant to a larger building.

Now what about you, what do you enjoy in your free time?

I love to curl up on the couch with my cats and read. I also love to cook and to bake and to grill and to try new things in the kitchen.

What three words describe you?

Foodie, charismatic, determined

What are some of your favorite foods?

Pie of any flavor, Italian anything, curries, tacos, pad thai – I just love food 😊

Do you have a favorite recipe for October  you could share with us?
October soup recipe
Yum!  If you need us, we’ll be curled up and home slurping this soup in our cozy sweaters!

|Vendor Spotlight|: Jewell Event Design

Mallory Munson Photography

|Vendor Spotlight|: Jewell Event Design

We are very excited to highlight one of our favorite wedding planners, Leanne Jewell with Jewell Event Design!  She is always such a joy to work with, super fun, and does a fabulous job; so we reached out to find out more about her and the business.

denver wedding planner, boulder wedding planner, event planner colorado, jewell event design, event designer coloradoTell us a little bit about Jewell Event Design.

I have been a Wedding and Event Planner for just over 23 years in Colorado. Jewell Event Design was launched out of love in December of 2015.  We are a Wedding Planning & Event Design Service. We specialize in simple, elegant and luxury weddings. We are planners through and through and love designing and executing events. We also plan social and corporate events!

What makes you unique to other planners in Colorado?

I have an amazing sense of humor and an ability to execute events in an extremely calm manner. I really try to make sure that my clients are relaxed and having fun throughout their whole planning process and particularly on their wedding day. We go above and beyond and our packages are all-inclusive and custom tailored to fit every client. Our packages include everything our clients may need and if they need less, then we will adjust their package accordingly.

What wedding trends are you loving right now?

I am still very much in love with simple elegance along the lines of whites, ivory and greenery. However, the exact opposite end of that spectrum is exciting for me too!  Strong and bold, beautiful colors really excite me!

Can you name your most memorable event?

Gah! I have had so many of them! I’ve been very blessed to have several high-end (millionaire) weddings and those always blow my socks off! I just wrapped up the wedding for Jerry Greenfield’s (Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream) son and new daughter-in-law and their theme was chaotic floral and was BEAUTIFUL! All of the guests participated in the theme and wore floral prints. The flowers were stunning, colorful and over the top…which was so amazing to see come together. I also got to build a paper flower wall for them, which was huge and involved intense, gorgeous colors. But most of all, they were a FUN group of people!

What is your number one tip for couples planning their wedding?

Do not book a single vendor or your venue prior to researching your budget and overall vision and what that looks like! I have a lot of clients that book venues, etc. prior to setting a budget and it ends up causing them a lot of hassle. Let a planner help you! Even if it’s just a free consultation. We offer a complimentary budget break-down for our clients, regardless of whether they book with us or not. It’s really helpful and our clients appreciate it!

What other kinds of events do you like to help with besides weddings?

I enjoy all types of events and love variety! I particularly love working on fundraisers and things that make a difference. We support several charitable organizations throughout every year.

What’s next for Jewell Event Design?

We are expanding! We are currently in the process of launching Jewell Event Design in the Los Angeles market. We will be focusing on Los Angeles, Malibu and Orange County. We are also working on a “women-to-work” program, where we train women who are trying to rebuild their lives in our career field so that they can refocus their lives and build something for themselves! I am so excited about this program and looking forward to helping empower women to be the best that they can be!

What do you like to do in your free time?

I am a professional Comedian and I also work as a Commercial and Film Actress. I LOVE IT! It keeps me balanced in this awesomely busy industry of ours 🙂

What is your favorite hang out spot in Boulder?

Anywhere on Pearl Street Mall that has Happy Hour!

What is your favorite outdoor activity in Colorado?

Hiking & Trail Running. I love Sanitas! Lounging by the pool with a cocktail. Oops… I named too many.

Anything else you would like to add?

I LOVE working at Rembrandt Yard! It is one of my all-time favorite venues for weddings and events! (don’t tell the others) 😉

Aw shucks, and now we’re blushing!!  Thank you so much Leanne, we loved getting to know you more and learning what is next for Jewell Event Design.
